At the NNA Foundation s 138th Annual Convention & Trade Show, The Marion (Kansas) County Record Publisher Eric Meyer speaks about publishing the first newspaper following the raid where police had confiscated all their computers and equipment. The raid occured after the first week of the delinquent tax list. “Three pages long had run in the week before and we had to run the second week of it,” Meyer said. “We didn t have it. Oh, we didn t have any of it.”
Utilizing the low-res PDF and the website, they managed. “It took two all-nighters to get that paper out but we got it out,” Meyer said.
At the NNA Foundation s 138th Annual Convention & Trade Show, newspaper publishers, editors and ad managers screened For The Record, a mostly vérité documentary following the life of Laurie Brown, her town, and her newspaper, as she leads a valiant effort to keep it alive. “Laurie s session was moving — so powerful I left in tears,” Amy Johnson, publisher of the Springview (Nebraska) Herald, said. “The documentary of her works demonstrated how involved newspapers are in their community and the void they leave.” Brown publishes The Record in Canadian, Texas.

Publishers and editors from across the nation gathered in Omaha, Nebraska, from Sept. 25 to 27 to engage in training and networking as part of the NNA Foundation's 138th Annual Convention & Trade Show.

The event closed Friday evening with a celebration of 2024 Better Newspaper Contest winners.
