In Memoriam: James Folmer, 70

James Folmer, founding editor of Century Group Media's Redlands (California) Community News, died Jan. 14, 2024, at Redlands Community Hospital from complications of colon cancer, the newspaper reported. He was 70.

His 50-year career included stints with The Californian in Temecula, Vista Press, Escondido Times Advocate, San Bernardino Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts and The Desert Sun in Palm Springs.

Folmer was the founding editor of the Redlands Community News, which launched in 2019.

”It was an absolute honor for him to be your editor,” daughter Jessica Ducsay said in the remembrance. “He always said he wanted to write until the day he died, and he just about did — even working partly throughout his recent cancer treatments.”

DEATH NOTICE: Terry Anderson

Terry Anderson — chief Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press who in the 1980s was abducted and held hostage in Lebanon — died at home in Greenwood Lake, New York, on April 21 at the age of 76 due to complications from a recent heart surgery, the AP reports. Anderson spoke at an NNA event not long after he was freed, according to NNA legal counsel Tonda Rush, former public policy director.
